Make-up!

Jaclyn just discovered that she loves to put on make-up! She's had it for a long time, but was only somewhat interested...until now. It's so cute, most of the time she puts her eyeshadow on UNDER her eye instead of on her eyelid, and her name for lip-gloss is lip-glop! I guess that's a pretty appropriate name! Ashlyn's a good sport...she likes it too.

We'll Miss You, Travis!

This is my good friend, Travis, who moved to Florida on Sunday. Her family of 6 is now going to work for Agape Flights, an organization that takes supplies and mail to missionaries in various countries. It is so neat to see her and her husband giving their lives to the Lord for whatever service He calls them to, and this time, He has called them to pack up and move far away. It won't be easy, but we all know that His hand is in this, and He will provide ALL that they need.

Travis, we are all praying for you and we miss you already! We love you!

More Flood Pics

This is the major intersection in Coralville. Everyone's being re-routed; there's heavy traffic wherever you go.

Flood of 2008

This is completely unbelievable! A record breaking winter has turned into a record breaking spring! Our Iowa City/Coralville area is experiencing the worst flood that anyone in modern history has seen or recorded. Parts of Cedar Rapids (a neighboring city) is completely under water - I'm talking whole buildings, under water! Amazing! Here are a few pictures, but the water is still rising in Iowa City and is not going to crest for another 3 days, so it's going to get much worse. Many around here remember the floods of '93, and this flood is estimated to be 5 feet above those records!

Here is that same park right now. You can see the top of the carousel sticking out of the water. This gives you a glimpse of how bad it is.

We went to the area on Tuesday, so it's much worse now, but here we are on the sidewalk of Dubuque St., the road that Craig takes into work. It was one of the first places to flood, and will be flooded for a long time.
This is the Coralville Dam. Usually no water is even close to flowing over the spillway, but you can see the water at the bottom of the picture, just flowing steadily over the spillway and thus causing major problems.

My Little Dipper

Jaclyn started swimming lessons this week. She's in the "Little Dippers" class, and then she'll go straight into the "Big Dippers" class.

She is loving it!

"Bruiser"

Craig started calling Ashlyn "Bruiser" today. I wonder if it'll stick...might depend on if she keeps up this cycle of being a bit accident prone.

Neither Craig nor I saw this accident happen, but we gather that she was jumping off of something and hit her chin on the coffee table. Maybe someday she'll start to figure out how these accidents happen. Makes me wonder what it'll be like when she's older and playing organized sports!! I think it might make her dad happy...she may try anything he tells her to.

My girls LOVE cucumbers, especially Ashlyn. Notice she's got about 4 in her hand. She just shoves them in!
